Description

"The fourth print project from my Printmaking class from about two years ago. Titled 'Mother 3 Tribute.'

In my Printmaking class, we had four projects, all of which had to be based on a particular theme from the art periods we learned about. ...Or at least attempt to match it.

For our fourth and final project...we technically could do anything we wanted, though our professor encouraged us to try to stick with the theme of Modern Art of some kind. We had to create a BAT ("Bon a Tirer," which is basically your main print with which all other prints are to be compared to to make sure they all look the same) and then make 10 prints as close to the BAT as we could. ...It was stressful. OTL

Anyway...I personally was inspired by the idea of Pop Art, mostly the theme behind it about challenging art traditions and all. I remembered that one artist, Andy Warhol, who did that famous painting with the Campbell's Soup can, and how that was sorta poking fun at art and stuff, and I felt that the Mother series was, in a way, like that with regards to video games--with regards to RPGs in particular. The Mother series has always been a loving parody of RPGs, and I've loved how the series made fun of itself and of conventional RPG mechanics. So I felt that it was fitting to make a tribute to it (particularly of Mother 3, as it is the Magnum Opus of the series, really), as a video game equivalent of Pop Art itself, to me.

Anyway, this one is an aquatint. It's made in a similar way like the etching, except additional steps are taken to give value, so that there's "shading" in the copper plate as opposed to it just being lines."

And here is the copper plate used for the print. I apologize for the blurriness.;;;
